I am very inspired by this quote that can be found on the ¡Viva Vaquita! website. It is by the Senegalese ecologist Baba Dioum:
In the end we will conserve only what we love;
We will love only what we understand;
We will understand only what we have been taught.
It really reflects the whole purpose of my blog: to teach.
A very interesting painting by Memuco. Oil on cardboard.
“Their Last Talk”
Here are two awesome drawings by my brother (top) and sister (bottom)!
I love these plush Vaquitas that I received from the ¡Viva Vaquita! team! They are each hand-sewn, and no one is quite like another. I got a mother and calf set, with the baby fitting in a pouch in the mom’s belly! (See picture.) Unfortunately, there are no more available, at least at the moment, but it is still an example that this cute little porpoise still has a chance.
Recently I have started another Vaquita book, this time a fictional adult novel. It is called Nets, and is about both a pod of Vaquita and a local fisherman. I am also still working on my informational children’s book, Vaquita. My brother and I are both painting Vaquita pictures to either sell or use for publicity. I will start to post some more artwork that my siblings or I have made in the past. I will post some progress reports in the future.
