Sun made its way
to her back,
Casting a morphing shadow
on the powdery sand.
Bubbles slipped out of her lungs,
dancing to the swirling surface.
She rose up
toward the beckoning sun.
Her blowhole inhaled
the salty air,
Refilling her lungs
like a balloon.
She noticed a ship
in the distance.
Binoculars and cameras faced her,
flashing.
She floated in glory,
admired by the many people.
She was beautiful.

The Mexican government assembled a committee of international experts to assess the necessary methods to save the Vaquita. The International Committee for the Recovery of the Vaquita (CIRVA) previously met in 1997, 1999, and 2004. Members of CIRVA met again in February 2012 and reviewed progress of the Vaquita since the last meeting. The CIRVA recommendations are in this report:

The Vaquita population is still declining and is probably made up of under 200 individual Vaquitas.
The Vaquita has never survived in captivity.

About a month ago I started the rough draft of something I’ve been thinking about for a long time: a Vaquita book. There are no books about the Vaquita in the entire world! I love writing stories in my free time, so I thought it would be a perfect idea to write the world’s first Vaquita book. The book is a non-fiction children’s book, but adults should find it very informative as well. I am getting my information from various internet and book sources (I will obviously give them credit). I will give Vaquita experts my rough draft so they can make sure all of the information is 100% accurate. One of my friends from tennis knows a publisher, so hopefully he will be able to work with it! I will post updates on this topic whenever they are needed.
